Background and Education:
Attorney Richard M. Brooks graduated from University of
Tennessee with his
Bachelor of Science Degree in 1969. He then went to the
University of
Tennessee School of Law. He completed his studies at the
Nashville Y.M.C.A.
Night Law School, now known as the Nashville School of Law
in Nashville,
Tennessee. He received his Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1975.
On June 1, 1976,
Mr. Brooks was admitted to practice law. He joined the
Tennessee Bar
Association on October 15, 1976. In 1980, Mr. Brooks was
accepted into the
United States District Court for the Middle District in
Nashville. Mr. Brooks
attended and received certification from the University of
Tennessee School of
Law Tennessee College of Trial Advocacy in 1983 and in 1986
was admitted to
the United States Supreme Court and the United States Sixth
Circuit Court of Appeals.
Mr. Brooks has been a member of the National Association of
Criminal Defense
Lawyers and American Trial Lawyers Association since 1992.
He is a member of
the Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association, Tennessee
Association of Criminal
Defense Lawyers, and the Tennessee Municipal Judges
Association.
Mr. Brooks is the presiding Judge for the cities of Carthage
and Gordonsville,
Tennessee. He was recognized as the longest sitting
municipal judge with over 25
years of public service at the 2003 First TMJA Conference
held in Gatlinburg,
Tennessee.
